Because it is open-source, it is also cost-effective and configurable, allowing it to meet the different demands of organizations across industries. What if it’s integrated with e-commerce platforms? Let us find out.
ERPNext + Shopify e-commerce Case Study
In a past case study, we highlighted the success story of one of our top clients, a leading homeopathic pharmaceutical company in Kerala. They achieved a significant milestone by implementing the ERPNext + E-commerce combination, making them the first homeopathic pharmaceutical company in Kerala to have an e-commerce website.

Now, we’re thrilled to introduce yet another captivating success story about how ERPNext was skillfully integrated with Shopify e-commerce to enhance operations for a client specializing in automotive accessories trading in Dubai.
About the Client and their prerequisites
Our client Al Khateeb Global General Trading LLC, a prominent automotive parts trader with a network of over 15 branches across the United Arab Emirates, previously relied on Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for their operations.
However, they faced the need for a more cost-effective solution that could better align with their specific business requirements. Simultaneously, they aimed to establish a robust online presence through a Shopify-based e-commerce platform to meet the surging demand for high-quality automotive accessories.
Cost-Effective Solution: The client sought to optimize their IT budget by migrating from Oracle Cloud ERP to a more cost-effective alternative, all while retaining functionality and reliability. We successfully migrated existing users to the new system without any disruptions, with invaluable support from Alkhateeb team leads.
Permissions and Field-Level Security: Implementation of role-specific and user-specific permissions and the concealment of cost and price information within Sales and Purchase flows based on designated roles.
E-commerce Platform: The client aimed to establish an online presence and expand their market reach by offering a diverse range of automotive accessories through a Shopify-based e-commerce website.
Custom Reports: Creation of consolidated and individual finance reports tailored to varying complexities.
Proposed Solution
We proposed a comprehensive solution involving the implementation of open-source ERP software seamlessly integrated with a Shopify e-commerce platform.
The Transition
Parallel Implementation: Rolling out the solution concurrently across their central office, primary warehouse, and 14 branches (12 in Dubai and 2 in Sharjah) while ensuring a smooth transition of their extensive existing data.
To address this, we conducted a month-long requirement analysis followed by a three-month development phase. Subsequently, we recommended a three-month parallel trial run alongside their existing system, starting from January 1, 2023. Following feedback and necessary adjustments, the client fully adopted our Custom ERPNext solution on March 1, 2023.
After rigorous evaluation, we recommended the adoption of a cost-efficient open-source ERP software solution that seamlessly aligned with the client’s specific requirements. This encompassed modules such as Accounts, Inventory, Asset Management, HR, Payroll, Sales, Purchase, and e-commerce.
Shopify Ecommerce Website
In response to the burgeoning demand within the automotive parts trading industry, we developed a feature-rich Shopify-based e-commerce website. This website, accessible at [https://alkhateeb.ae/], provides customers with access to a wide array of high-quality automotive accessories, offering a seamless shopping experience.
During the integration with Shopify, we encountered various practical challenges, including handling multiple images for a single item, addressing tax-related issues, and managing return and refund flows, among others. Our experienced and dedicated developers successfully resolved these challenges.
Results and Benefits
Cost Optimization: The transition from Oracle Cloud ERP to open-source ERP software resulted in substantial cost savings while maintaining functionality and reliability.
Streamlined Operations: The integrated ERP software streamlined business operations across all 15+ branches. With modules encompassing Accounts, Inventory, Asset Management, HR, Payroll, Sales, Purchase, and e-commerce, the system offered centralized control and enhanced operational efficiency.
We proposed a preprinted dot matrix printing solution to reduce printing costs, given the substantial transaction volume. However, this presented challenges with print alignment, as each of the 15 branches had different hardware devices, leading to variations in print formats and occasional changes in print titles. We dedicated significant effort to fine-tune the printing format.
Increased Online Sales: The user-friendly and visually appealing Shopify e-commerce website contributed to increased online sales and expanded customer reach. Integration with the ERP software ensured seamless order processing and efficient inventory management.
Scalability and Flexibility: The open-source nature of the ERP software provided scalability and flexibility, enabling the client to adapt the system to evolving business requirements.
Post-implementation, we allocated dedicated support from our development team for two months to provide timely assistance with any issues the client encountered during the initial use of the ERP software. We also implemented several additional features and requirements during this period.
After Implementation
After the implementation, we designated a group of our developers to maintain smooth functionality.
Our Hurdles
Our developers encountered challenges while integrating Shopify with popular community solutions, but they successfully resolved these issues to ensure a flawless implementation.
We recommended a preprinted format for a bulk implementation across their 15 branches. During the implementation process, we faced challenges related to device compatibility and alignment issues arising from content changes. However, we efficiently managed and resolved these issues.
Future Scope of the Project
We are currently developing a custom e-commerce mobile application as an extension of the existing Shopify site. Additionally, we are exploring solutions for managing automobile services and a mobile app for HR payroll activities. The project’s scope also extends to incorporating modifications in the company’s operations due to the forthcoming tax changes.
Conclusion
By recommending an end-to-end solution that combined a cost-efficient open-source ERP software with an integrated Shopify website, we effectively addressed our client’s challenges. The new ERP system improved operational efficiency, while the Shopify e-commerce platform drove growth in online sales and expanded the client’s customer base. Our client now enjoys a reliable and cost-effective IT infrastructure that supports their trading business and positions them for future expansion.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant future; it’s here, shaping our world, and it’s time we talk about the ethics surrounding it. In this comprehensive exploration, we’ll dive into the most critical ethical considerations in AI.
1. Bias and Fairness
Imagine an AI-powered hiring tool that systematically favors one gender over another. This scenario illustrates the pressing concern of bias in AI. AI algorithms learn from historical data, and if that data contains biases, the AI can perpetuate and even exacerbate them. The result? Unfairness, discrimination, and a broken trust in AI systems.
Addressing bias requires meticulous data curation, algorithmic transparency, and ongoing monitoring. It’s not just about avoiding discrimination; it’s about actively promoting fairness and equity in AI systems.
2. Privacy and Data Handling
Data is the lifeblood of AI, but using it responsibly is paramount. The ethical dilemma lies in balancing the power of AI with the privacy of individuals. Collecting, storing, and sharing data must adhere to strict standards. Otherwise, we risk violating privacy rights and undermining trust in AI technologies.
Ethical data practices include informed consent, data anonymization, and stringent security measures. When individuals trust that their data is handled with care, AI can be a force for good without compromising privacy.
3. Transparency and Accountability
Have you ever wondered why an AI made a particular recommendation? Lack of transparency is a major ethical concern in AI. Users and stakeholders should know how AI systems make decisions. Without this transparency, accountability becomes elusive, potentially causing harm and eroding trust.
To address this, AI developers must create explainable AI models, providing clear insights into the decision-making process. This empowers users and ensures accountability when things go awry.
4. Job Displacement and Social Impact
AI’s automation potential has enormous economic and social implications. While AI can boost efficiency, it can also displace jobs. Ethical considerations include preparing the workforce for this transition, ensuring social safety nets, and striving for a balance between technology and employment opportunities.
It’s vital to acknowledge that AI’s impact extends beyond business efficiency; it’s deeply intertwined with society’s well-being and economic stability.
5. Autonomous AI and Decision-Making
The rise of autonomous AI raises ethical questions about decision-making. Who’s responsible when AI makes decisions independently? Ensuring AI systems align with human values and adhere to ethical standards is crucial in preventing unintended consequences.
We must establish frameworks for AI ethics that guide the development of autonomous systems, ensuring they act ethically and in accordance with human values.
6. Accessibility and Inclusivity
AI should benefit everyone, regardless of their background or abilities. Ensuring accessibility and inclusivity is an ethical imperative. Neglecting this aspect can lead to discrimination, leaving vulnerable populations behind.
This involves designing AI systems that consider diverse user needs, making technology more accessible and inclusive.
7. Security and Trust
Security breaches involving AI can have catastrophic consequences. Maintaining the integrity of AI systems and safeguarding them against malicious intent is an ethical duty. Trust in AI depends on its reliability and security.
Ethical AI demands robust cybersecurity measures, ongoing risk assessments, and proactive defense strategies.
Conclusion
In a world increasingly driven by AI, ethics must take center stage. These seven key ethical considerations encompass the most pressing concerns surrounding AI. As businesses and individuals, we must navigate the ethical maze of AI to ensure its responsible and beneficial use.
Ethical AI isn’t just about rules and regulations; it’s about preserving our humanity, fostering fairness, and building a future where AI enhances our lives without compromising our values. As we continue to embrace AI, let’s do so with a profound commitment to ethical principles, ensuring that it truly works for the betterment of all.

BevQ, an app provided by Kerala State Beverages Corporation, has crossed 1 Lakh downloads just hours after it was released on Google Play Store. The app, as claimed by the company, helps in managing the queues virtually and will be primarily used in managing the overcrowding at the liquor stores in Kerala. The app has been developed by a Kochi-based startup called Faircode Technologies Private Limited.

People completely overlooked the social distancing guidelines as they thronged the liquor shops after 40 days. Shops in Delhi had to be closed because of the unruly behavior showcased by the public. However, Kerala plans to manage the issue differently by using an app. The BevQ app is available for Android users, it is not clear whether the iOS users will get the app or not.
So here’s how you use the app to buy liquor in Kerala

Liquor stores in India opened up briefly to aid our economy, but as social distancing went for a toss, the stores were hurriedly shut again. Most states, understandably, have relied on contactless delivery to get alcohol to the customers. However, a Kochi-based start-up, Faircode Technologies Private Limited, has come up with a new solution, or rather an app, to help people place orders for alcohol.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new alcohol buying app: BevQ
1. About the app
Simply put, the app gives you a token that you can scan at your nearest alcohol store and get your desired alcohol. As the app’s Google Play Store description says, “BevQ is a virtual queue application and token generator service provided by Kerala state beverages corporation ltd. In order to maintain social distancing especially in this Covid-19 scenario, this app will be usable and the client can book a queue number and token for assuring his place in the queue in the specified time slot.”
2. How it works
For starters, the app does not deliver alcohol to you. Instead, it gives you a virtual queue token. Once you have entered your desired amount of alcohol and location, the e-token will be generated. The token includes your address, district, time slot (for pick-up) and a QR code. The app also uses GPS to guide you to your nearest licensed liquor stores.
3. Where can you use it
As of now, the app is only available in Kerala. However, Zomato and Swiggy have started deliveries in most other states too. Additionally, you can also check out our step-by-step guide on alcohol delivery in Delhi and Mumbai.
