About the Client and their prerequisites

Our client Al Khateeb Global General Trading LLC, a prominent automotive parts trader with a network of over 15 branches across the United Arab Emirates, previously relied on Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for their operations.


However, they faced the need for a more cost-effective solution that could better align with their specific business requirements. Simultaneously, they aimed to establish a robust online presence through a Shopify-based e-commerce platform to meet the surging demand for high-quality automotive accessories.

Cost-Effective Solution: The client sought to optimize their IT budget by migrating from Oracle Cloud ERP to a more cost-effective alternative, all while retaining functionality and reliability. We successfully migrated existing users to the new system without any disruptions, with invaluable support from Alkhateeb team leads.

Permissions and Field-Level Security: Implementation of role-specific and user-specific permissions and the concealment of cost and price information within Sales and Purchase flows based on designated roles.

Proposed Solution

We proposed a comprehensive solution involving the implementation of open-source ERP software seamlessly integrated with a Shopify e-commerce platform.

The Transition

Parallel Implementation: Rolling out the solution concurrently across their central office, primary warehouse, and 14 branches (12 in Dubai and 2 in Sharjah) while ensuring a smooth transition of their extensive existing data.

To address this, we conducted a month-long requirement analysis followed by a three-month development phase. Subsequently, we recommended a three-month parallel trial run alongside their existing system, starting from January 1, 2023. Following feedback and necessary adjustments, the client fully adopted our Custom ERPNext solution on March 1, 2023.

During the integration with Shopify, we encountered various practical challenges, including handling multiple images for a single item, addressing tax-related issues, and managing return and refund flows, among others. Cost Optimization: The transition from Oracle Cloud ERP to open-source ERP software resulted in substantial cost savings while maintaining functionality and reliability.

We proposed a preprinted dot matrix printing solution to reduce printing costs, given the substantial transaction volume. However, this presented challenges with print alignment, as each of the 15 branches had different hardware devices, leading to variations in print formats and occasional changes in print titles. We dedicated significant effort to fine-tune the printing format.

Increased Online Sales: The user-friendly and visually appealing Shopify e-commerce website contributed to increased online sales and expanded customer reach. Integration with the ERP software ensured seamless order processing and efficient inventory management.

Scalability and Flexibility: The open-source nature of the ERP software provided scalability and flexibility, enabling the client to adapt the system to evolving business requirements.

  • We recommended a preprinted format for a bulk implementation across their 15 branches. During the implementation process, we faced challenges related to device compatibility and alignment issues arising from content changes. However, we efficiently managed and resolved these issues.

Future Scope of the Project

We are currently developing a custom e-commerce mobile application as an extension of the existing Shopify site. BevQ, an app provided by Kerala State Beverages Corporation, has crossed 1 Lakh downloads just hours after it was released on Google Play Store. The app, as claimed by the company, helps in managing the queues virtually and will be primarily used in managing the overcrowding at the liquor stores in Kerala. The app has been developed by a Kochi-based startup called Faircode Technologies Private Limited.

“BevQ is a virtual queue application and token generator service provided by Kerala state beverages corporation ltd. In order to maintain the social distancing especially in this COVID scenario this app will be usable and the client can book a queue number and token for assuring his place in the queue in the specified time slot,” the description of BevQ reads on Google Play store.

Over-crowding at liquor stores has been a major issue ever since the government allowed the sale of liquor. People completely overlooked the social distancing guidelines as they thronged the liquor shops after 40 days. Shops in Delhi had to be closed because of the unruly behavior showcased by the public. However, Kerala plans to manage the issue differently by using an app. The BevQ app is available for Android users, it is not clear whether the iOS users will get the app or not.

Liquor stores in India opened up briefly to aid our economy, but as social distancing went for a toss, the stores were hurriedly shut again. Most states, understandably, have relied on contactless delivery to get alcohol to the customers. However, a Kochi-based start-up, Faircode Technologies Private Limited, has come up with a new solution, or rather an app, to help people place orders for alcohol.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new alcohol buying app: BevQ

1. About the app

Simply put, the app gives you a token that you can scan at your nearest alcohol store and get your desired alcohol. As the app’s Google Play Store description says, “BevQ is a virtual queue application and token generator service provided by Kerala state beverages corporation ltd. In order to maintain social distancing especially in this Covid-19 scenario, this app will be usable and the client can book a queue number and token for assuring his place in the queue in the specified time slot.”

2. How it works

For starters, the app does not deliver alcohol to you. Instead, it gives you a virtual queue token. Once you have entered your desired amount of alcohol and location, the e-token will be generated. The token includes your address, district, time slot (for pick-up) and a QR code. The app also uses GPS to guide you to your nearest licensed liquor stores.

3. Where can you use it
