Web design is the creation of a front-facing “website” while web development is the creation of a web application. A website is the front-face for your audience while a web application is a web platform with back-end functionality. I find that examples paint the best picture so I’ll use the example of college. The web design should allure the page lander enough to make them want to take interest in that college, apply, donate, refer it to friends, etc. It’s meant to, in a way, sell you on it. That being said, the actual web design doesn’t have much “functionality” built-in. There’s not a whole lot you can do there.
