What is 2CB? Partnership to End Addiction

Given its similarities with MDMA it has been suggested that 2C-B could be used in a similar manner to resolve emotional conflict [36, 37]. 2C-B oral fluid concentrations increased quickly after 2C-B ingestion, reaching a peak (tmax) 1 h after self-administration (Figure 1B). Concentrations decreased rapidly from 2 to 6 h after ingestion and could be detected in oral fluid up to 24 h in half of the volunteers.

Mixing 2C-B with other drugs

However, the role of these interactions and how they result in the psychedelic experience continues to remain elusive. 2C-B was first synthesized and tested for psychoactivity in 1974 by the American chemist and psychedelic researcher Alexander Shulgin, who was investigating novel psychedelic compounds based on the chemical structure of mescaline. By participating in these programmes, individuals recovering from pink cocaine addiction can receive the support, guidance, and tools they need to overcome their addiction and rebuild their lives. Visual, auditory, and tactile hallucinations may also be experienced, adding an unpredictable element to the user’s experience. These psychological responses, coupled with feelings of invincibility and increased risk-taking behaviour, can lead to dangerous situations, such as driving under the influence or engaging in unprotected sexual activity. Finally, the HRS questionnaire had high scores for most of the scales at 6 h after dose, particularly in volition, intensity, and perception.

  1. The use of the same dose for all subjects was a strength although few differences were observed with respect to gender.
  2. The qualities of 2C-B made it popular as a sex-enhancement drug in the 80s.
  3. The onset of cardiovascular effects occurred at 1 h assessment and maintained over a long-lasting period (4 h).
  4. Of our respondents, only 7% reported any negative impact the following morning after using doses lower than 35 mg of 2C-B.
  5. Conceptual thinking, introspective insights, and spiritual ideation are also common—especially when alone.

However, if you do choose to ingest nasally, doses should be significantly smaller because it comes on faster and stronger, and will also be shorter-lasting. Although popular for its recreational effects, 2C-B use can lead to addiction and other long-term consequences. In this article, we cover 2C-B’s effects, health risks, and the proper response during a potential bad trip or overdose. 2C-B affects the heart rate, blood pressure, and the central nervous system, which could make it unsafe for people with convulsive seizure disorders (e.g. epilepsy), heart problems, diabetes, schizophrenia, or a history of mental illness. Horror stories in sensationalist media have portrayed 2C-B as a deadly, threatening drug.[50][51] And while its toxicity profile has yet to be fully established, such reports are dubious, to say the least. Aside from the fact that aggression and violence are rarely mentioned in users’ reports, 2C-B is difficult to detect in the body.

It is strongly recommended that one use harm reduction practices when using this substance. It is highly advised to use harm reduction practices if using this substance. Pink cocaine is a powerful stimulant, and its effects can be adult children of alcoholics unpredictable and dangerous. To our best knowledge, there have been no scientific studies into the long-term effects of 2C-B use. It’s often used as an alternative to MDMA at lower doses and an alternative to LSD in high doses.

How does it make people behave?

However, we accept that illegal drug use occurs, and believe that offering responsible harm reduction information is imperative to keeping people safe. For that reason, this guide is designed to ensure the safety of those who decide to use the substance. Though part of the same family of compounds, 2C-B isn’t the same as 2C-P, the more dangerous drug implicated in the death of Louella Fletcher-Michie at Bestival in 2017. Unlike 2C-B, 2C-P has a history of overdoses dating back to the early-90s – although Fletcher-Michie was the first recorded death – and today is sold by just one darknet dealer.

Our results indicate that 2C-B has specific effects on emotional processing and mood states which permit its classification as an entactogenic substance with psychedelic and hallucinogenic characteristics. Entactogenic effects are characterized as an “open mind” state with properties including an increase in self-awareness, the sensation “to produce a touching within,” introspection, elevated sensory perception, and enhanced prosocial effect [54]. Changes in vital signs/physiological outcomes are shown in Table 1 and Figure 1A. Maximum effects (Emax) were +19 mmHg, +13 mmHg, and +13 bpm, respectively. Compared to baseline values, statistically significant differences were detected for SBP from 1 to 4 h and from 1 to 3 h for DBP and HR.

The psychoactive dose of LSD is measured in sub-milligram doses, while the threshold dose for 2C-B is around 5 mg. All 2C- substances contain methoxy groups on the 2 and 5 positions of a benzene ring of its chemical structure. They each have a unique chemical group attached to the 4th position on the benzene ring, which is what differentiates them in terms of their chemical structure and effect profile. Most of them were invented around the same time by Alexander Shulgin and documented in one of his books PiHKAL. With that said, hangovers are still possible — and are especially common with the higher doses.

Most but not all users report a tolerance effect from regular use (more than once every five to seven days). Since 2C-B doesn’t tend to be habit-forming, this isn’t usually a problem. Nevertheless, the few cases of long-term psychosis attributed to 2C-B are highly questionable, and it’s not known that the drug was even involved. Testing your 2C-B is always good practice even when you trust your supplier.

Whilst the standard rapid urine drug test employed prior to the session was negative for the most common drugs, it was naturally unable to identify any other possible NPS (e.g., synthetic cannabinoids or cathinones). With respect to tolerability and safety, all the volunteers had had previous positive experiences with 2C-B and other drugs. Nevertheless, taking into account the fact that substances with similar profiles can induce severe medical and psychiatric reactions, its consumption in naïve users or in subjects with less experience could produce side effects. Additionally, results show that the self-administration does marijuana kill brain cells of 2C-B at the narrow dose range studied (10–20 mg) in healthy experienced users in a non-medical setting is relatively safe (González et al., 2015). In contrast to our previous publication (González et al., 2015), that focused on the effects of 20 mg on emotions, the present study included a more intensive evaluation of vital signs, and a more complete collection of oral fluid. These evaluations provided a picture of the time-course of the effects of 2C-B on physiological measures and permitted a comparison between the time-course of the effects and the concentrations of 2C-B in oral fluid.

In addition, the amount in a single capsule or tablet can vary significantly. Anecdotal reports claim the “come-down” period of 2C-B typically lasts between 2 and 4 hours. During this comedown, some people may experience a bad trip, causing them to “crash” or become depressed.
